Adam Lambert finished runner-up on American Idol in 2009 and turned the exposure into a recording career built on theatrical range rather than the show's usual pop formula — his 2012 album Trespassing debuted at number one, making him the first openly gay artist to top the Billboard 200. He has also performed and recorded with Queen's surviving members as Queen + Adam Lambert since 2012, with their live album reaching number one on the UK charts in 2020.
