Hungarian-Israeli artistic gymnast
1921 – 2025aged 103
Ágnes Keleti won ten Olympic medals in artistic gymnastics for Hungary, five of them gold — more Olympic medals than any other Jewish athlete besides Mark Spitz — with her best Games coming at Melbourne in 1956, where she was the most successful athlete of the entire Olympics. She emigrated to Israel in 1957 and worked for decades as a gymnastics coach there, returning to her native Hungary only in 2015, at 94; Israel awarded her its national prize for sport in 2017. She died in January 2025, at 103, having lived long enough to become the oldest Olympic champion in history.
