Austrian Jewish pacifist, publicist

1864 – 1921aged 56

An Austrian journalist and co-founder of the German peace movement who spent decades arguing, in print, for organized international cooperation as an alternative to war — work recognized with the 1911 Nobel Peace Prize, shared with Tobias Asser. Alongside his peace advocacy he was a committed Esperantist, writing an Esperanto textbook and compiling an Esperanto–German dictionary, treating a constructed common language as part of the same internationalist project as peace itself.
