Allen Garfield
American actor
1939 – 2020aged 80
Allen Garfield, born Allen Goorwitz, built a screen career on nervous villains, corrupt businessmen and crooked politicians across more than 100 films and television roles, from The Conversation (1974) and Nashville (1975) to Beverly Hills Cop II. Early on, he taught acting to a young Quentin Tarantino. When a stroke left him partially paralyzed before filming The Ninth Gate (1999), director Roman Polanski wrote the paralysis into the character rather than recast the part.
