Amanda Peet spent the 2000s as a reliable presence in studio comedies and thrillers — The Whole Nine Yards, Syriana, Identity — before turning to television, where she got to play morally messier women: a philandering wife in HBO's Togetherness, a bar owner in Brockmire, and the real-life murderer Betty Broderick in a season of Dirty John built around her trial. In 2021 she wrote and produced Netflix's The Chair, moving from acting into the writers' room.
