André Aciman

A writer raised in Alexandria, Egypt, until his Jewish family was among those expelled after Nasser's rise to power, Aciman turned that displacement into Out of Egypt, a 1995 memoir that won a Whiting Award. He is best known for Call Me by Your Name, later adapted into an acclaimed film, though Aciman himself has said he considers his novel Eight White Nights his best work.
