Arlo Guthrie built his career on storytelling as much as singing, following the tradition of his father Woody Guthrie: his 18-minute talking-blues debut 'Alice's Restaurant Massacree' became an unlikely Thanksgiving radio staple, and his cover of Steve Goodman's 'City of New Orleans' gave him his only top-40 hit. His song 'Massachusetts' was later named the state's official folk song.
