Barbra Streisand insisted on full artistic control from the start of her recording career in 1963, accepting lower pay from Columbia Records in exchange — an arrangement she kept for the rest of her career. She is the only artist to top the Billboard 200 in six consecutive decades, and the first woman to score eleven number-one albums, from People in 1964 to Encore in 2016. She won an Oscar for Funny Girl in 1968 and holds all four major performing-arts awards — Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony — a status known as EGOT.
