A trained dancer turned actress who has won two Tony Awards for musical theatre — for Sweet Charity (1986) and for playing Velma Kelly in the long-running revival of Chicago (1996) — alongside two Emmy Awards for her deadpan turn as Dr. Lilith Sternin on Cheers and its spin-offs. Her stage and screen work has spanned four decades, including recent roles in Madam Secretary and a Tony-nominated performance in Cabaret in 2024.
