Built a career on turning excruciating social discomfort into slapstick, from There's Something About Mary to Meet the Parents, then complicated that persona as a director with The Royal Tenenbaums and the more downbeat Greenberg. Son of comedians Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara, he started by writing and hosting the short-lived Ben Stiller Show, which won him an Emmy for its writing before Fox cancelled it after one season. He has voiced Alex the lion across the Madagascar franchise and directed and starred in Tropic Thunder.
