Bob Balaban became a fixture of Christopher Guest's mockumentary ensemble — Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, For Your Consideration — and of Wes Anderson's films, appearing in Moonrise Kingdom, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Isle of Dogs, and Asteroid City. He was also nominated for an Academy Award as a producer of Gosford Park (2001), in which he acted, and has written children's novels alongside decades of earlier film work including Midnight Cowboy and Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
