Bob Gale co-wrote Back to the Future with his writing partner, Robert Zemeckis, and co-produced all three films in the franchise, staying involved enough that actor Michael J. Fox called him the series' "gatekeeper." He also worked in comics and directing, and stayed on as associate producer of the franchise's later animated television series.
