Buddy Baer
American boxer
1915 – 1986aged 71
A heavyweight boxer who, in a 1941 title fight against Joe Louis at Washington's Griffith Stadium, landed a punch many ringside officials judged should have disqualified Louis and made Baer champion — the decision went the other way, and he lost their rematch the following year. He ranked among the era's top heavyweights and was later named to The Ring magazine's 100 greatest punchers of all time, then built a second career as a film and television actor. His brother Max Baer held the heavyweight title.
