Known to the world as "Mama Cass," a nickname she disliked, Cass Elliot's rich alto voice anchored The Mamas & the Papas through their run of 1960s hits, including a Grammy-winning performance of "Monday, Monday." After the group split she released five solo albums and kept performing and appearing on television until her death in 1974 at age 32. She was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 for her work with the group.
