Dara Torres competed in five Olympic Games between 1984 and 2008, becoming the first swimmer to represent the United States across that span and, at 41, the oldest swimmer ever named to a U.S. Olympic team. She won three silver medals at Beijing in 2008 — a meet held sixteen years after her Olympic debut — finishing her career with twelve Olympic medals, at the time tied for the most ever by a woman in Olympic swimming. She later coached at Boston College.
