As co-owner and supervising director of Fleischer Studios alongside his brother Max, Dave Fleischer oversaw the creation of Betty Boop, Popeye the Sailor, and the Fleischer studio's pioneering Superman cartoons, along with the innovative Out of the Inkwell series that blended live action with animation. He directed the studio's two animated feature films, Gulliver's Travels and Mr. Bug Goes to Town, before the brothers' partnership dissolved in the early 1940s. He later worked as a technical specialist on live-action films including The Birds.
