David Helfgott

An Australian concert pianist whose battle with mental illness and eventual return to performing became the subject of the Academy Award-winning 1996 film Shine, which brought his story and his playing to an international audience for the first time. Geoffrey Rush's Oscar-winning portrayal of Helfgott renewed interest in his recordings and reignited his touring career decades after his early promise had been derailed.
