DJ AM

American disc jockey

1973 – 2009aged 36

DJ AM (Adam Goldstein) turned early sobriety into the foundation of a career: after a 1997 suicide attempt led him to get clean, he became one of the era's most in-demand club DJs, including a $1 million weekly residency at Caesars Palace, while sponsoring other addicts through Alcoholics Anonymous. He and Travis Barker, his DJ partner, were the only survivors of a 2008 plane crash that killed four others; Goldstein relapsed afterward and was found dead of an overdose in 2009, at 36, not long after hosting an MTV series about his own addiction.
