Don Rickles built a career out of the joke nobody else was allowed to tell — a Miami Beach kid turned Las Vegas headliner whose insult comedy, aimed at everyone from Frank Sinatra to sitting presidents, made him a fixture on Johnny Carson's couch and a friend rather than an enemy of the people he savaged. He acted in Kelly's Heroes and Scorsese's Casino, but reached a wider audience than either as the voice of the perpetually outraged Mr. Potato Head across four Toy Story films. A 2006 documentary about him, Mr. Warmth, won a Primetime Emmy.
