Eddie Constantine

American-born French actor and singer

1913 – 1993aged 79

Born Edward Israel Constantinowsky, Constantine built his career largely in France, becoming a household name playing the hardboiled secret agent Lemmy Caution in a run of pulpy French B-movies through the 1950s and 60s. That same persona later drew serious arthouse directors to cast him against type, including Jean-Luc Godard in Alphaville, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, and Agnès Varda, making him one of the few actors to bridge pulp cinema and the European avant-garde.
