Born Goldstein, Gould became one of the defining faces of 1970s American cinema through his collaborations with director Robert Altman — M*A*S*H, The Long Goodbye, California Split — bringing a shambling, unglamorous naturalism that helped define the era's antihero. He earned an Oscar nomination for Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice and later found a new generation of fans as Reuben Tishkoff in the Ocean's Eleven trilogy and as Jack Geller on Friends. He is a member of Saturday Night Live's Five-Timers Club, having hosted six times.
