Frank Gehry
Canadian and American architect
1929 – 2025aged 96
Born Frank Goldberg, Gehry redefined what a building could look like, wrapping the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in undulating sheets of titanium and stainless steel that turned both into destinations in their own right. His style, often filed under deconstructivism though he resisted the label, took shape in the 1970s and later reached beyond architecture into furniture and product design. He won the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 1989 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and kept designing buildings into his nineties.
