Gary Cohn rose over 25 years at Goldman Sachs to become the firm's president and co-chief operating officer, before serving as director of the National Economic Council under President Trump from 2017 to 2018, where he pushed through the 2017 tax reform bill. He resigned after Trump moved ahead with steel and aluminum tariffs Cohn had lobbied against, having also weighed quitting the previous year over the administration's response to the Charlottesville rally.
