Gene Saks

A director who won three Tony Awards — for I Love My Wife, Brighton Beach Memoirs, and Biloxi Blues — after starting his career as an actor with a 1949 Broadway debut, and who was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame. He also directed a number of films, building a career that moved fluidly between acting and directing across seven decades of American theater.
