Gershon built a career playing characters who refused to be easily liked, most notably as Corky, the ex-convict electrician at the center of the Wachowskis' neo-noir Bound, a role that helped establish the film as a landmark of queer cinema. She had already appeared in Cocktail and Showgirls, and went on to roles in Face/Off, Killer Joe, and a recurring part on Riverdale, while also recording and touring as a singer.
