Goddard Lieberson
British-born American composer; record producer
1911 – 1977aged 66
Ran Columbia Records for most of two decades starting in 1956, and used the position to record cast albums for stage musicals rather than chase singles charts alone — decisions that shaped what a major label's catalog could look like. Also composed music himself and led the Recording Industry Association of America from 1964. Married the ballerina Vera Zorina in 1946, and had two children with her.
