Guy de Rothschild
Jewish-French banker, art collector, horse breeder
1909 – 2007aged 98
A French banker who led the family's Banque Rothschild as chairman from 1967 until 1979, when the French government nationalized it under President Mitterrand — a move Rothschild answered publicly, comparing the seizure to the Vichy-era confiscation of Jewish property he had survived as a young man during the German occupation. He rebuilt afterward through investments in other French and international companies, including the mining group Imerys.
