1914 – 2000aged 85

A major MGM star who, between films, co-invented a frequency-hopping system to stop torpedo signals being jammed. The Navy ignored it; the underlying idea now underpins Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. She received no royalties and little recognition until her eighties.
