Hy Zaret

American lyricist and composer

1907 – 2007aged 99

Wrote the lyrics to "Unchained Melody" in 1955, a song that has since been recorded by more artists than almost any other in the 20th century, from Righteous Brothers to countless later covers. A Tin Pan Alley lyricist by trade, he built a career setting words to other people's melodies, with that one song alone outlasting most of his contemporaries' entire catalogs.
