Irving Gordon

American songwriter

1915 – 1996aged 81

Irving Gordon wrote "Unforgettable" from the Brill Building, a song that became a Nat King Cole standard and, decades later, a posthumous Grammy-winning duet when his daughter Natalie Cole layered her voice over his archival recording in 1991. Gordon also wrote Perry Como's hit "Delaware" and supplied lyrics to Duke Ellington's instrumental "Prelude to a Kiss," before walking away from a music business he felt had traded melody for what he called "maladies."
