Jerry Goldsmith

American film composer

1929 – 2004aged 75

Jerry Goldsmith scored more than two hundred films and television productions across a 49-year career, building some of the most recognizable orchestral textures in Hollywood — the propulsive brass of Star Trek, the eerie choir of The Omen, the primal percussion of Planet of the Apes. He won the Academy Award for The Omen in 1977 after eighteen nominations, and scored five Star Trek films, three Omen films, Chinatown, Alien, Poltergeist, and L.A. Confidential among many others. He also composed the fanfare that still opens every Universal Pictures film.
