Built a career on smart, socially uneasy characters, then played the least uneasy version of that type as Facebook's founder in The Social Network, earning an Oscar nomination for a performance built almost entirely on clipped, defensive dialogue. He later wrote, directed, and starred in A Real Pain (2024), about two cousins on a Holocaust remembrance tour in Poland, winning the BAFTA and an Oscar nomination for the screenplay.
