Joel Hirschhorn

A Bronx-born songwriter who, with partner Al Kasha, wrote "The Morning After" for The Poseidon Adventure (1972) in a single evening — it topped the Billboard chart and won them an Academy Award. Two years later they won a second Oscar for "We May Never Love Like This Again," from The Towering Inferno, making Hirschhorn one of the few songwriters to win back-to-back Academy Awards for disaster-movie theme songs. He also wrote for Elvis Presley and Roy Orbison, and picked up a further Oscar nomination for Pete's Dragon (1977).
