John Zorn

American composer, saxophonist and bandleader

b. 1953age 73Living

John Zorn built a career deliberately resisting categorization, moving between jazz, hardcore, classical and Jewish liturgical music often within a single album, and drew wide notice with The Big Gundown, a 1986 reworking of Ennio Morricone's film scores. From 1994 to 2018 he composed and recorded over three hundred pieces for his Masada project, and has released his own and others' work through his independent label, Tzadik Records, since 1995.
