Founded Shutterstock in 2003 with a collection of photographs he took himself, offering a subscription service that made stock imagery accessible to customers online. He expanded it into a marketplace for contributors around the world and took the company public on the New York Stock Exchange in 2012. A programmer as well as a photographer, he had previously built and sold small software products, including a pop-up blocker.
