Ossoff became the youngest sitting U.S. senator and the first born in the 1980s when he was elected from Georgia in a 2021 runoff, a victory that, alongside Raphael Warnock's win the same day, gave Democrats control of the Senate via Kamala Harris's tie-breaking vote. He first ran for Congress in a narrow 2017 loss in a longtime Republican stronghold, having previously worked as a national security staffer and run an investigative documentary production company.
