Josephine Earp

American actress and dancer, wife of Wyatt Earp

c. 1861 – 1944aged 83

Josephine Earp was born to Prussian Jewish immigrants in New York and raised in San Francisco before running away to Arizona Territory as a teenager, where she met the frontier lawman Wyatt Earp in Tombstone in 1881. She became his common-law wife for the better part of five decades, guarding the private, undocumented years of her early life so fiercely that she threatened legal action against writers who tried to fill them in; when Wyatt died in 1929, he was buried in her family's Jewish cemetery plot.
