An American director who broke through with Chronicle (2012), a found-footage take on teenage superpowers made on a modest budget that became a critical and commercial success. He went on to direct the 2015 Fantastic Four reboot and the Al Capone biopic Capone (2020), taking on markedly different material each time. His early career shows a willingness to work against genre expectations rather than repeat a formula.
