Judd Nelson's John Bender in The Breakfast Club became one of the defining performances of 1980s teen cinema, all sneer and hidden vulnerability in a single detention room. He followed it with St. Elmo's Fire the same year, and voiced Hot Rod, who becomes Rodimus Prime, in The Transformers: The Movie -- giving him a foothold in both prestige teen drama and Saturday-morning cartoon canon.
