Krishna Das
U.S. singer of kirtans
b. 1947age 79Living
Born Jeffrey Kagel, he became one of the most recognized voices in American kirtan, the Hindu devotional chanting practice, after years studying with an Indian guru. He has released seventeen albums since 1996, performed at the 2013 Grammy Awards with a Best New Age Album nomination, and been described by the New York Times as "the chant master of American yoga" — an unlikely career built on bringing a devotional Indian musical form into American wellness culture.
