Sedgwick spent seven seasons as Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson on The Closer, a Georgia-born LAPD interrogator whose deceptively soft manner she played to a Golden Globe and an Emmy. Her earlier film work includes Oliver Stone's Born on the Fourth of July and Cameron Crowe's Singles, and she later moved behind the camera as a director and producer while continuing to act, including a recurring turn as the deadpan Deputy Chief Wuntch on Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
