Laura Nyro wrote hit songs for other artists throughout the late 1960s -- the 5th Dimension had five hits with her material, Barbra Streisand three more -- while her own albums, Eli and the Thirteenth Confession and New York Tendaberry, drew critical acclaim without matching that commercial success in her lifetime. Recognition came late: she was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2010 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012, thirteen years after her death.
