American artist, photographer and filmmaker

b. 1949age 77Living

A photographer central to the Pictures Generation of the late 1970s, she helped redirect the medium toward staged narrative scenes built from dolls, ventriloquist dummies, and mannequins rather than documentary subjects, using them to probe questions of domesticity, consumerism, and self-presentation.
