American professional football player and actor
1949 – 1992aged 43
A defensive end who played fifteen NFL seasons for the Denver Broncos, Cleveland Browns, and Los Angeles Raiders, winning Super Bowl XVIII with the Raiders and earning three All-Pro selections known for a fierce, intimidating style of play. In his final year, dying of brain cancer, he became one of the first major American athletes to publicly acknowledge using anabolic steroids, stating he believed the drugs had caused his illness — a disclosure that made him a cautionary figure in the sport's long reckoning with performance-enhancing drugs.
