Mack David

American lyricist and songwriter

1912 – 1993aged 81

An American lyricist credited with writing words or music for more than a thousand songs across a career running from the early 1940s into the 1970s, most enduringly the songs for Disney's Cinderella and Alice in Wonderland. His English-language lyrics for Édith Piaf's "La Vie en rose" gave the song much of its familiarity to English speakers who never heard the French original. He was the elder brother of fellow lyricist Hal David, making the two siblings a rare case of parallel careers at the top of American songwriting.
