Madlyn Rhue is best remembered for playing Lieutenant Marla McGivers opposite Ricardo Montalbán in Star Trek's "Space Seed," one of the franchise's most consequential episodes, across a career spanning roughly twenty films and dozens of television guest spots from Bonanza to The Fugitive. Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1977, she kept working as the disease progressed, taking wheelchair-compatible roles like a judge on Trial by Jury — Angela Lansbury wrote her a recurring part on Murder, She Wrote partly to help her keep her health insurance.
