Martin Brest

American film director

b. 1951age 75Living

Directed two of the biggest studio hits of the 1980s, Beverly Hills Cop and Midnight Run, then earned Best Director and Best Picture nominations for Scent of a Woman, which won Al Pacino his only Oscar. His career took an unusual turn in 2003: after Revolution Studios seized creative control of Gigli and forced a reshot, rewritten cut, the film became a notorious box-office bomb — and Brest has not directed since, a rare case of a hit-making filmmaker's career ending on someone else's edit.
