Landau's career spanned five decades, from a supporting turn in Hitchcock's North by Northwest (1959) through leading roles in the television series Mission: Impossible and Space: 1999. He spent years being nominated without winning — for Tucker: The Man and His Dream and Woody Allen's Crimes and Misdemeanors — before taking the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for playing a fading Bela Lugosi in Ed Wood (1994). He later ran the Hollywood branch of the Actors Studio until his death.
