A character actor equally at home in Hollywood blockbusters and Canadian art cinema, memorably playing Rex Stout's detective Nero Wolfe on television and turning up in WarGames, Twins, Dances with Wolves, and My Cousin Vinny. A frequent collaborator of director Atom Egoyan through the 1990s, he won Canada's Genie Award for Best Actor for Whale Music and was recognized repeatedly by the Gemini and Canadian Comedy Awards over a career built on precise, often eccentric supporting roles.
