1909 – 1959aged 50

Max Baer held the world heavyweight boxing title for one year, from 1934 to 1935, after two of his fights — a win over Max Schmeling and a loss to James J. Braddock — were named Fight of the Year by The Ring magazine, which later rated him among boxing's twenty-five hardest punchers of all time.
